Who are Beeswift? Beeswift is a manufacturer and wholesaler of Personal Protective Equipment/Clothing and workwear safety products encompassing a wide range of safety products and high quality workwear. At Beeswift we pride ourselves on providing high quality PPE from footwear to head protection, products that protect our customers with superior durability and improved comfort. Our 144,000 sqft Birmingham based HQ and Distribution Centre (NDC) has significant stockholding, serving the UK, Ireland and International territories along with an in-house embroidery and badging facility. As a responsible purchaser/manufacturer we audit our production facilities at home and abroad using our internal department who have completed International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) approved courses in ISO9001, lead auditor and Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA). To help with our global compliance challenges and carbon footprint we also use external auditors who are IRCA accredited and have staffed offices all over the world. All Auditors are dedicated to ensure that consistent compliance processes are carried out to firstly meet legislation and secondly to meet the requirements of Beeswift’s company values, quality and ethical standards. After a partner production facility is audited in accordance with SMETA, we address any potential problems proactively and work with our partner production facilities to resolve these. This is done using Corrective Action Plans (CAP) . We set dates to complete any CAP objectives, then these objectives are verified with either a follow up audit or a desktop verification, that can include images, video or training plans implemented where necessary. To support our European and Global account base and Partners, Beeswift operates a European Distribution Centre (EDC), based in the Netherlands. Our EDC not only operates on the same platform with a stock profile mirroring that of our NDC, it also forms part of our disaster recovery and contingency plans. Beeswift is a full member of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI). We proactively work with suppliers, competitors and our peers to develop products made with ethical principles in mind. We strive to work with suppliers who share our ethical philosophy and adhere to the 9 pillars of the ETI Base Code. We believe in transparency in the supply chain and are actively engaged with other organisations in similar markets to improve our combined supplier base and in doing so we are striving to improve the existing conditions with our suppliers. In doing this we can together collectively bring greater change and improvement across all stakeholders. In addition to the ETI, we are also members of SEDEX. This means Beeswift has completed a comprehensive Self Assessment Questionnaire which is uploaded on the SEDEX Advance platform and available (permission given by Beeswift) for interested parties to view our ethical credentials. SEDEX is not a standard setting body but it is a platform for sharing ethical information and improving our supply chain. Beeswift is also accredited to ISO 14001, 9001 and 45001 QMS registered. You can find UKCA and CE declarations of conformity and User Information Sheets (UIS)/Care Instructions for garments that require them at www.beeswift.com. This gives the user security and peace of mind that the Beeswift product they are using has the relevant DNA reference. Primary Authority trading standards and Beeswift, have entered into an agreement that guarantees legal advice and assistance. Beeswift are a manufacturer and wholesaler of Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment and entered the partnership to demonstrate our commitment to embed legal compliance into our business. The Primary Authority scheme enables businesses to form a legal partnership with one local authority, which then provides assured and tailored advice on complying with relevant legislation that other local regulators must respect. Businesses receive ‘primary authority advice’ tailored to their business needs, which will make it easier for businesses to comply with the law and reduce compliance costs. It also helps grow the business knowing the resources they have invested in compliance are recognised across the country. It is with great pleasure that we confirm that Beeswift continues to achieve Gold standard certification through the ecovadis platform. The assessment that ecovadis uses covers a broad range of non-financial management systems including environmental, labour & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement impacts. Has the production facility been fully audited to the highest standards? Is the production facility certified to Article 11B? Module C2/D of the PPE Regulation 2016/425:- Requires the manufacturer to evidence using their quality system that consistent production of the certified CAT 3 product is maintained. Module C2 is a yearly audit where the product is tested by the notified body denoted by the 4 numbers by the CE/UKCA mark. This allows for the notified body to ensure that the product itself still achieves the level of protection it is required to. Module D is a yearly audit of the entire manufacturing process which is inspected to ensure that no changes have been made to the production of the product, which means that if everything is the same then the product itself should still achieve the same level of protection. 2. What tests have been carried out on the garments, and not just the fabric? All Beeswift ARC garment styles have been tested individually to the following standards where appropriate:- Ask for a copy of all current certificates to support the level of protection being offered. 3. Is the garment / item fit for purpose? Over the past 15 months the Beeswift ARC developers have worked not only on the 3c’s - COMPLIANCE, CONFORMITY, CERTIFICATION, but have also added a fourth which is COMFORT. User satisfaction in all areas of the 4c’s is paramount to the correct and proper usage of the items provided. Every feature has been thought through from the pocket arrangements to the triple stitching in key stress areas. The fabric has been developed to allow soft flexible comfort without compromising the PROTECTION. 4. Is the item in STOCK? Absolutely, in many cases up to size 58” chest and short, regular and long leg lengths in some styles. 5. What about waterproof garments? Testing is virtually complete and the CLICK ARC Team expect salopettes and jackets in solid yellow and orange to all the above standards when applicable plus EN 343 to be available soon. The “box arc” test method is based on the European method described in ENV 50354, with a heat transfer measurement. Materials are classified as Class 1 (4kA) or Class 2 (7kA). Performance requirements for materials, and design requirements for garments. This incorporates the “open arc” test method which is used in the US, and it measures the Arc Thermal Performance Value (ATPV) of the fabric in cal/cm². WHAT IS AN ARC FLASH? An arc flash refers to the light and heat that occur during an arc fault, which is typically a type of electrical explosion that results from a connection through air to ground or another voltage point (phase) in an electrical system. Where the fault occurs, current flows across instantaneously raising the temperature high enough to vaporize anything that gets in between the fault. When hit by an arc flash you are hit by “waves”. However these happen so quickly it feels like just one singular incident. First you are hit by the first wave which is concentrated with convection heat, UV light, IR light and visible light. The incident energy can be anything from 4-100cal/cm². Secondly you will be confronted with the radiant heat which can move up to 1200km/h. Finally, you will be struck by debris and vaporised copper. Copper expands 67000 times as it is vaporised creating a pressure wave. During all of this the temperature can reach up to 20,00O°C which means there is a significantly high risk of severe body burns. PPE should always be a last line of defence when there is no other choice but to send someone into the risk environment. 126
